Coushatta Casino Resort Partners with United Way of Southwest Louisiana and The Food Bank of Central Louisiana for Food Distribution to Allen Parish Residents

Kinder, LA—On May 29, Coushatta Casino Resort partnered with United Way of Southwest Louisiana and The Food Bank of Central Louisiana in distributing family food packages to residents of Allen Parish. Long lines of vehicles filled the parking lot of The Pavilion at Coushatta, each patiently waiting to receive a variety of food. Over 300 households received packages of meat, vegetables, and non-perishable foodstuffs.
Denise Durel, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Louisiana stated, “We are really excited to partner with Coushatta Casino Resort and The Food Bank of Central Louisiana, and very appreciative of the casino allowing use of this space to provide such a worthy service to the community. Since the coronavirus pandemic struck, there has been an 80% increase statewide in food bank distributions, with 40% being new households. Everyone realizes that food and security are critical to the health of a community. Today is a win/win for Coushatta Casino Resort, United Way of Southwest Louisiana, Food Bank of Central Louisiana, and residents of Allen Parish.”
Casino General Manager Scott Sirois commented, “We are proud to play a small part in the Coushatta Tribe’s legacy of commitment to the residents of Allen Parish.” He continued, “We extend our thanks to the many volunteers and casino staff members whose assistance was vital to the success of this monumental and essential task,” Sirois concluded.
Coushatta Casino Resort is thoroughly observing applicable guidelines and recommendations set forth by advice of the Emergency Management professionals within the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, as well as public health experts at the CDC. These guidelines and recommendations include patron density, social distancing, capacity control, temperature and health screenings, sanitation, and other related protocols.
